Author Versus AI - Day 1I've hinted about the novel I'm doing today on a recent podcast where I was a guest, The Brewing Fiction Podcast. The genre is speculative fiction, specifically supernatural horror. While I won't give away everything about the book, here's the story summary: Ami feels haunted by the death of her twin sister when they were both thirteen. She’s consumed by guilt for not being able to save her sister from drowning and has since struggled with depression, which she expresses through her dark and graphic art. Fresh out of high school, Ami apprentices with an odd duck mentor to follow her dream of becoming a tattoo artist. But something seems to be going wrong with several of the people her mentor tattoos—the subject matter of the artwork seems to be coming to life and creating human monsters. Is the ink activating something in the people who were already susceptible to committing violence? Or is it a terrible coincidence? Ami’s not sure if she’s imagining everything until a good friend of hers goes rogue after she gets inked. That leaves Ami with a final solution to discover what’s going wrong: to put herself under the needle. The working title is: The Ink Collector. Here's me reading the summary: This is one of the novels that a publisher has already expressed interest in acquiring. So, mysterious publisher, here it comes! The words are being written as we speak (or read). At the end of the week, I plan to record myself reading an excerpt from the work (as long as I can figure out how to get the video going and posted). I'll update this post at the end of each day and let you know how many words I end up writing, right up until I finish writing the first draft of the book. But please feel free to chime in and let me know... what do you think of this story idea? Love it, hate it, or "eh"?
