The number one question I get is: “How the heck do you write a book a week?” So, I’m going to be sharing tips and tricks about how I’m doing it, and how you can too. Check out my Writing Tips page for short videos covering a wide range of topics, from how to get started, all the way to what to do with your book when you've finished. First topic this week is how to find a genre that you’re comfortable writing in. This will be permanently posted on my Writing Tips page, but here's the video down below, just to make it easy to see: Hope my writing tips are inspiring you to get started on your own book. Happy writing!

Monday, May 6 --- 4,579 words Tuesday, May 7 --- 5,021 words Wednesday, May 8 --- Thursday, May 9 --- Friday, May 10 --- Saturday, May 11 --- Sunday, May 12 --- TOTAL words for Week 3 --- This week, I'm diving back into my fantasy caper world with book 2 of Stheno's adventures. Another 40,000 words, here we come! Here's the description of the series itself: All the unusual villainous creatures of mythology band together Ocean’s Eleven style to steal something from the “good guys.” Golems, goblins, gorgons, harpies, banshees, zombies, etc. Each one possesses a unique skill that helps them have a fighting chance against the so-called heroes. And what the second book's about, which has the working title of The Wreakfast Club. After escaping the hangman’s noose, Stheno is ready to rest on her laurels. She saved the mythic community from the terrible King Roberts, and that’s more than enough. But she doesn’t count on Roberts’s daughter Gloria showing up, intent on revenge and not knowing the real story about her father’s death. The new queen takes Stheno’s kids hostage, and says she’ll put them to death unless the gorgon agrees to be her errand girl and retrieve several magical items for her. Nothing big, she says, just a few tiny and inconsequential things here and there. Understandably suspicious of the tasks Queen Gloria is setting for her, Stheno attempts to gather her old crew back together—only to find that several have since “retired.” But when do the “bad guys” retire and completely vanish into thin air? It seems odd, and Stheno is determined to find out what happened to them. But she can’t go it alone, and the clock is still ticking against her kids being held hostage by the Queen. She puts together a new crew with a few of the old members hopping on board to race against the seconds counting down to find what Queen Gloria wants. But once she returns with the queen’s magical items, having faced timid half-gods and punchy phoenixes, she finds out the extent of what Gloria has planned: concocting a spell to end magic forever, thereby wiping out the entire population of the mythic community. Having handed the “good” queen the keys to their own destruction, now Stheno has to steal the items back before everyone she cares about is destroyed. Stheno's adventure continues! I'll catch you at the end of the week to see... can I keep the momentum going? Until then, have a great week! I'll be posting my final wordcount soon, but I've gotten over the finish line and written over 40k words AGAIN this week. I'm still working on the last chapters to complete the book, and I'm racing to finish it before the clock strikes midnight. WILL I DO IT, FOLKS??? You'll have to check in to see. :) Here's an excerpt of me reading from my new book, which is a fun fantasy romp with crazy mythological characters: Tomorrow, I'll keep right on going in the series to write book 2 in Stheno's world, so stay tuned! Until then, have a great weekend. :) Monday, April 29 --- 4,677 words Tuesday, April 30 --- 5,176 words Wednesday, May 1 --- 6,920 words Thursday, May 2 --- 3,224 words Friday, May 3 --- 4,733 words Saturday, May 4 --- 7,340 words Sunday, May 5 --- 12,075 words TOTAL words for Week 2 --- 44,145 words After last week's success, I feel like I'm on a roll (or a bun or a croissant...). As you might have guessed with my terrible joke, I'm looking to do something fun and light after all the heaviness of horror in the first week, so I'm going to start on a twofer that will be a humorous fantasy caper and a sequel - one for this week and one for next week. And the first book, which has a working title of Cheaper By the Scoundrel. Golems, goblins, and gorgons all have a bad rap, but it’s undeserved. It’s just so the man can keep them down. And the humans currently putting heel to neck just increased the taxes on the underworld to unbearable levels. Zombies’ arms are falling off from overwork, harpies have laryngitis, and the scorpion tail of the akra-boo-a-meh-loo has lost its sting. Stheno is the mightiest of the gorgons, but she’s as stuck as the next guy. She’s just worked three double-shifts in a row at her construction job, and can see no way to pay off the new taxes and still put food on the table for her kids. While complaining at the local watering hole for disreputable sorts, she attracts quite a crowd by being so outspoken about the current government—usually a one-way ticket to the dungeon under King Robert’s castle. But when others gather near, a plan is soon hatched to Robin Hood their tax money back from the heroes to save their community. What follows is a madcap adventure that involves drunken princesses, greedy oracles, and sex-mad monks all bent on stopping the “bad guys.” What do you think - would you want to read it? Please let me know in the comments below! I'm still working on the draft of The Ink Collector, BUT I have to announce that I DID pass the 40,000 word mark as of today. So, while I'll be completing the novel tonight and probably writing right up to the wire to get to "The End," the project (as of week 1) has so far been successful. While I'm typing up the last few words (and I'll update the word count in the post below, so that you can see how much I got written in 6 days), here's a bit of entertainment for you: me reading an excerpt from my new novel. Tomorrow, I'm starting to write a brand new book in a brand new genre, so stay tuned! I'll be posting about it here and keep you updated throughout the week on how it's going. Until then, hope everyone can get out and enjoy the nice spring weather! :)
