I had to do it... after all, what's a list of 52 books without a zombie adventure thrown it? And it's not your typical zombie apocalypse. Here's what week 6's book, Beef with the Apocalypse, is all about: When Azari Yue wakes up in her Edmonton apartment on a Wednesday in July, she never imagines it will be the last normal day she does so. But screams bring her running into the hallway to confront a terrible scene: dogs savaging their owners, and bodies lying on the streets. She locks herself into her place and tries to call 911, but all the lines are occupied and she can’t get through. The news tells a terrible story of animals dropping to the ground en masse, and then reawakening and turning suddenly feral with no explanation. But it’s when reports start coming in from the rest of the country about cattle, horses, and other domesticated animals reacting the same as the dogs, she realizes that she’s not in Kansas anymore and Toto isn’t her best friend. The airwaves are filled with speculation of a biological attack, but it’s pretty clear that no matter the origin, the zombie apocalypse has come for the animals. It’s now become a race against the clock to find out how and why, in order for the government to come up with a solution. But time’s running out as the country’s social infrastructure crumbles in the aftermath of mass casualties, and people become afraid to leave their homes to keep the world running as normal, Azari realizes that she can’t just sit in the city while wild packs of dogs roam the street, killing everyone they encounter. She’s got to find a safe haven for herself and a few people she meets along the way. On the radio, she hears about a sanctuary established in the north of the province, but is it just a pipe dream to try and get there before she also falls victim to the savage dead? Okay, got off to a bit of late start because the cat was in my face at 5 a.m. and I've been a bit sluggish since then. But now that this post is up, I'm off to write! Have a great week, everyone. See you on Sunday with an excerpt.
